Cars. Girls. Alcohol. That’s the essence of VS Club, a slick new head-turner popping champagne in Haizhu District. Named after the Chinese Internet lingo ‘VS,’ meaning ‘face-off,’ this nightlife spot is all about strutting its stuff while challenging others to keep up.
Step into the lobby and you’ll find the club’s sassy logo proudly perched on a marble wall overlooking a set of arcade car racing games. Luxury automobiles are clearly the theme here, but don’t worry if you’re still rocking a Honda Accord – VS is open to all. Once inside, spacious hallways lead to a collection of extravagant rooms suited for anything from private business deals to a wild rave night. For the latter, VS Club lacks no swagger – a huge stage sits before the main dance floor, complete with massive speakers and the continuous flash of sapphire and purple spotlights.
Dancers help to kick start every evening, while a rotation of experienced DJs from China and Ukraine ensure that the night never grows old. On a Sunday, most guests don’t look overly enthused, but we’re told that VS parties draw huge crowds by showcasing impressive sports cars with plenty of models to introduce them. So we’re told.
There are a variety of drinks available at the bar or to order, from shooters and whiskey sours to a range of car-inspired beverages like the Lamborghini (RMB65), a scintillating mix of vodka, Kahlua, Bols blue and Galliano. For a college throwback, check out the set of 10 test tubes (RMB200), which are essentially glorified neon shots. A selection of Chinese and German beer is also on tap, along with international wines by the bottle or glass. Certain tables require minimum purchases of RMB1,000 or higher, but one can buy tuangou vouchers online in advance that offer 50 to 60 percent discounts.
Blaring a mantra for the young and rich, VS Club is spicing up nightlife in Guangzhou without so much as a nod at modesty. But if wild parties and classy cars have you lusting, then get ready to ‘VS’ a night of madness.
